Privacy policy

This page explains what information Math Magic Land (mathmagicland.com) collects, why, and the choices you have. If you have a question, email info@mathmagicland.com.

1. Free accounts

Everyone can see the home page, the Year Path, the lesson library and a short preview of each lesson without an account. The lessons, videos, practice sheets and all Learning Tools (including the Teacher toolkit) are free, but you need a free Math Magic Land account to open them. You can create an account with your email address and a password, or with "Continue with Google".

2. What we collect when you create an account

• Account: your full name, email address and, if you use one, a password. We only keep a scrambled (hashed) form of the password; nobody can read it. If you use Google, we receive your name, email address, Google account ID and profile picture link from Google. We never receive your Google password.
• About you (everyone): your role (teacher, parent, student, tutor, school leader or other), country, how you heard about us, whether you want news emails, and the date you agreed to the Terms and this policy.
• Adults only: your city or province and your phone number with country code. You can also add a street address and postcode; this is optional.
• Teachers: school name, curriculum, the years you teach and your role at school.
• Parents: number of children, their years and the type of school.
• Tutors: number of learners and the years you teach.
• School leaders: school name, position, approximate number of learners (optional) and curriculum.
• Students: year group and the email address of a parent or guardian, and a tick to confirm that the parent or guardian agrees. We do not ask students for a phone number or an address.
• Use of the site: the date of your first and latest sign-in, how many times you have signed in, the language you use, and simple counts of how many lesson, tool and other members' pages you have opened. We count numbers only; we do not record which answers you type.

3. The newsletter form

You can also ask for our free newsletter without an account, using the "Free maths magic in your inbox" form. It asks for your first name, your email address, whether you are a parent, a teacher or other, and your consent. We also save the language you were using, the page where you filled in the form, the form it came from and the date. We use this only to send you the newsletter (new lessons, tricks, tools and free printables). If the same email address already has an account, your account's news choice is turned on. Every newsletter lets you unsubscribe, and you can also email info@mathmagicland.com to be removed; we then delete your details from the newsletter list. Your browser remembers that you closed or used the form (for 14 days after closing), so it does not keep asking you.

4. Why we use this information

• to create your account, let you sign in and keep the members' pages for members;
• to send account emails, for example "confirm your email" and "reset your password";
• to understand who uses Math Magic Land (for example how many teachers, parents and learners, in which countries and years), so we can make better lessons and tools;
• to protect the site, for example against too many sign-in attempts;
• only if you tick the box: to send you news, new lessons and new tools by email. You can stop these emails at any time.

We handle personal information in line with applicable data protection laws, including Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). We use it because you asked for an account (to provide the service you signed up for), and for news emails only with your consent.

5. Learners and children

Learners can have an account only with the agreement of a parent or guardian, whose email address we ask for. We ask learners for as little as possible and never for a phone number or address. Teachers should not type sensitive personal information about learners into the tools; a first name or a number is enough. If you think a child has given us information without permission, please contact us and we will delete it.

Learners on a parent's or teacher's account (online practice). A member can add learners to their own account so that practice is saved on the account and works on every device. For each learner we keep the name you type (please use a first name or a nickname), a picture chosen from our set, the school year, optional "secret pictures", and the practice results: the sets they finish, which questions were right, stars, streaks and badges. Learners do not need their own email address or account. Only the member who added the learner can see this on the Parents page; the site owner sees numbers only (for example how many sets were finished). Once a week we may email the member a short report about their learners' practice; every report has a link to stop it, and it can also be switched off on the Parents page. Removing a learner, or deleting the account, deletes their names and results straight away.

6. Google Sheets copy (if the site owner turns it on)

The site owner may choose to keep a copy of new members' sign-up details (name, email, role, country, city, phone, how you heard, news choice, school, curriculum and years) in a private Google Sheet in the owner's own Google account, to manage the member list. This copy is not shared or sold.

7. Google Calendar in the Teacher toolkit (optional)

In the Teacher toolkit you can choose "Connect my calendar". The toolkit then asks Google for read-only access to your calendar events, so it can show today's events and the next 7 days, and remind you before they start.

• Your calendar events are read directly by your own browser and shown on your screen.
• They are never sent to our server, never stored by us, never shared or sold, and never used for advertising.
• You can disconnect at any time in the toolkit, or remove access in your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Math Magic Land's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

8. Information kept in your browser

Your classes, timetables, class points and tool settings are saved in your own browser on your device (local storage). They are not sent to us. Online practice progress is also kept in your browser until it is saved on your account (see section 5). They are kept separately for each account on that device. You can remove them by clearing your browser's site data.

9. Cookies

We use one sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days, and one security cookie that protects the forms. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. When you use Google sign-in, Google may set its own cookies; see the Google Privacy Policy. The private admin area uses one session cookie for the site owner only.

10. Sharing and storage

We do not sell or rent your information. Member and newsletter information is stored in a protected folder on our web hosting server that the web cannot open, and only the site owner can see it. Learners' practice results are kept in a private database on the same hosting. Emails are sent from our own hosting. Google provides Google sign-in and, if you use it, the calendar connection.

11. How long we keep it, and your rights

We keep your information while you have an account, and newsletter details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. On your profile page you can see and change your details, change your password, stop news emails, and delete your account: either ask us to delete it (we do this within 30 days) or delete your account and data straight away. You can also email info@mathmagicland.com from your account's email address to see, correct or delete your information.

12. Security

The site uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored only in hashed form. Sign-in attempts are limited, Google sign-ins are checked with Google on our server, and member files and member information are kept in folders that the web cannot open. The admin area is password protected.

13. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
